These activities are designed for students who currently use an
assistive technology. We want them to become experts with their
devices. The strategy is to:
- Read the manual if there is one
- Research their device on the Internet
- Finally, meet an AT expert to discuss how to get the most out
of their technology.
In addition to this research, students also evaluate if the technology
they use is the best choice and whether they are taking full advantage
of its features.
This research may be frustrating, however well worth it to students
in the long run. They will need to be in charge of their AT at college.
The more they understand about the equipment, the more they will
be able to take maximum advantage of it and to trouble shoot any
problems. Using
http://www.google.com
to search for the specific technology usually will provide information
from the vendor.
They continue to record information on the Assistive Technology
Self-Evaluation Guide.
