A Flexible Curriculum

Although the Post-ITT Guidance Activities are designed to be used sequentially, we encourage students, parents, and teachers to use them in a manner that makes the most sense. For many, this means introducing an activity early in high school and repeating it as is appropriate over time. For instance, we expect that students who use Post-ITT will be more and more effective in their attempts at requesting accommodations as they gain more experience. Conversely, there will be Post-ITT Activities that are not appropriate for some students. In these cases, we hope that the decision will be made to move on to the issues of greater importance.

Where to use Post-ITT

The Guidance Activities can be used individually or in small groups. They are appropriate for use at home or at school. Even if a student is working through the Guidance Activities at school, parents and other family member are asked to participate.

The Planning Worksheet as a Guide

Initially, everyone involved (including parents, teachers, mentors and students) are asked to identify knowledge and skill related to planning for college. Planning Worksheet is used for this purpose. This Web-based learning module will make extensive use of this rating form worksheet. You rate your child's skill in specific areas and discuss the information at an IEP or planning meeting with staff at the school. The purpose of the meeting is to decide where to start in the preparation for college. To assist you to understand the significance of these skills, we will look in depth at each section of the Guidance Activities, which corresponds to the Planning Worksheet.
