Many students in high school assume they will go to college but
never develop a plan or take the steps needed to make it happen.
Too often, students with disabilities are not considered for a college
track, so are left out of important discussions about college requirements.
As the senior year approaches, many realize they are not adequately
prepared. This section helps these students to take steps to make
college a reality.
Perhaps your son or daughter is like many high
school students, unsure of what they want to do in the future. Everyone
should have the opportunity to dream about their future, we encourage
it. But we know that dreaming is not enough. By discussing your
son or daughter's "dream job", you can help move toward
an attainable and realistic goal. Once these goals are developed,
students have time to take the needed high school courses and develop
compensatory skills.
Most high school students have had
limited exposure to the working world. Through
research, students
learn about careers in fields that are of interest to them. From
this research, they explore training opportunities.
