Beginning with interest inventories, students identify what they
like and what they don't. Figuring out what they don't like can
help guide them in deciding what they do want to do. For students
with disabilities who have limited exposure to different occupations
this process is especially important. Your son or daughter may need
to supplement interest inventories with increased exposure to a
variety of jobs. You can assist by pointing out jobs that are visible
within the community as well as exploring those behind the scenes.
You may want to help your son/daughter explore more than one interest
inventory. If so, speak to the Career Specialist or Counselor for
recommendations or use a search engine, like
http://www.google.com.
