Organization is a key to effective planning. There will be a lot to keep track of once students begin the application process. Your son or daughter may not recognize that they use an organizational system. Talk about important events in your family. How are birthdays, anniversaries, vacations and other events kept track of? Is he or she dependent upon another family member for reminders? Emphasize that once in college, an organization system is essential. The system developed now to keep track of the application process can be refined for future needs.

Encourage creative thinking. While experimenting, its a good idea to have a back up system in place. What works for you, may not work for your son or daughter.
