Ten Ways to Get and Manage College Disability Supports

Welcome to the Post-ITT Checklist for Seniors. We assume that you are here because you have a plan to go to college and that you either have been accepted by a college or are in the process of applying.

The Post-ITT Checklist is designed for future college students who have a disability and think they may need support services in college. Because getting support is very different in college compared to high school, it is important to understand how to get and manage the services that are available there. The Checklist does NOT cover other equally important topics that all new college students face like making the right choice of college, getting financial aid, managing money, living away from home, etc. We hope you have been and will continue to work with your family and teachers on these important issues.

At Post-ITT, we believe you should work on your college support plans while you are in high school. We developed 45 Post-ITT Guidance Activities and a comprehensive Web site to help. We hope you have used these activities. If you have, this Checklist will be a reminder and review. On the other hand, you may not have known about the Post-ITT Guidance Activities. In that case, think of the Checklist as important things to consider and do now.

Each item has information and links that can help you. As you read the information, ask yourself questions like:

  • Do I already know this?
  • Have I done it?
  • Why is this important?
  • How will I complete this?

We have tried to keep it brief. If you click a link that creates a popup window, be sure to close the window when done. A few links require Adobe Acrobat Reader™, which may be downloaded and installed on your computer free if you have not done so already.

One way to start is by selecting the buttons on the left. Take your time and talk with others about what you learn as you go along. Consider doing one or two checkpoints each week so you have enough time to think about your discoveries.

Another approach is go to the Are You Ready button on the left and answer the questions. Then you can work on the areas where you need the most information.

Good luck and write us if you have suggestions to make this Checklist better!
