Overview of the Assistive Technology Activities

The assistive technology activities are structured to introduce students to the concept of AT by asking them to explore and evaluate the effect of both high and low technology devices. Because some students may have more experience with AT than others, the activities branch after #12.

Current AT users are asked to explore all of the features of their technologies (#13) and research and try out alternatives (#14).

Students who have not yet used AT are asked to research (#15) and try out (#16) technologies that might effectively overcome their limitations.

Throughout these activities, students are asked to complete a self-evaluation guide that has been adapted with permission from an instrument published on LD Online. Activity 17 encourages students to use this information to make a plan for future experiments with assistive technology.
