As noted several times, become an effective self-advocate is a learning process. Accurate self-knowledge is required. Acceptance and valuing of oneself is the next step. Having goals, a plan and taking action must occur. Finally, students must learn from their efforts and using that new knowledge to move forward to future actions.

This first section of the Post-ITT Guidance Activities consists of only 9 activities. However, what is done must be repeated every year; self-assessment, learning about new ways to accommodate limitations, making plans and taking action. Structure each year so that the student takes on progressively more and more responsibility. Once in college or on the job, accommodations must be initiated and managed by individual.
